About Us

The history of Tug Hill Candles goes back 15 years when Christopher, Chief Creative Officer, decided to leave the drudgery of corporate life in the Bay Area and start his candle business. As a child living on the Tug Hill Plateau in the North Country of New York State, Christopher had learned the art of making candles from his parents, who supplemented their lives as educators with craft shows in the summertime. For over a decade, Christopher sold his work through San Francisco's Street Artisan Program, providing a conduit for his art to be in homes throughout the globe. In the late 2000s, Christopher met his wife Alyssa, who was raised in New Jersey but had been living and working in the Bay Area for about a decade. After marrying Alyssa, and having their son, Alexander, an opportunity brought the family back to the East Coast and Tug Hill Candles took a brief hiatus as the family settled into life in Connecticut. However, the passion for designing truly unique and original candles still burned in Christopher and spread to Alyssa. With Alyssa handling business operations and marketing, Christopher continuing to create his beautiful designs and Alexander providing inspiration, Tug Hill Candles has re-launched in Stamford, Connecticut! We hope you will join our new family journey.
